Research Questions

My three research questions are (with comments from friends on each question):

1) Should YouTube be allowed to block conspiracy theory videos from users feed?

- "Free speech, don't block my man Shane Dawson."

- "Isn't YouTube a free space? I mean at least conspiracy videos aren't offensive."

- "These days people take offense to everything, conspiracy videos are entertaining, it's like watching a TV show."

2) Should teachers be allowed to make the classroom a non-technology space?

- "Even if a classroom is a tech free zone, I will still sneak my phone under the desk."

- "At this point, there's no point in taking away technology, we're all addicted to it."

- "Some classes technology shouldn't be allowed, like in ETS classes."

3) How should teachers utilize technology in the classroom?

- "I guess it depends on the class, but I like when teachers allow us to look up things on our laptops."

- "Teachers should incorporate the technology they see necessary, every teacher should use powerpoint at minimum."

- "A lot of teachers need to look back at their course content and figure out how to incorporate technology, so many are outdated."

Reflection:

After testing my three questions on some of my friends, it was clear which ones were better than others. My third question was the broadest and gave the most broad answers. Overall, if I choose to research this question for Unit 2, I will focus on making it more narrow in order to get better results. I think my first question was the best claim I made. The results were the most specific and though provoking, someone was even able to mention a specific YouTube that makes conspiracy theory videos on the app. Furthermore, I believe that all my claims were debatable which gave my friends the option to express what they thought. For question 2, two of my friends took one clear side and another friend was clearly on the other. Even after asking them these questions, they continued to talk and debate about them long after I was done with this blog post making me realize it was overall a good claim. Each question I asked gives you the ability to pick a side. After analyzing the results from my questions, I think I want to dive deeper into my first claim. I am big into YouTube, specifically conspiracy videos, and think this would make for great research after YouTubes recent changes to the app. That topic also fits into our larger class inquiry because it has to do with people creating content on the internet. Im excited to see where this Unit takes me.
